BANYUWANGI \u2014 Beef demand in Banyuwangi has increased sharply ahead of\nEid.<\/p>\n
Whilst on regular days cattle slaughtering amounts to only 20 to 30\nhead, it can now reach 60 head per day. The surge in demand has also\ndriven up prices.<\/p>\n
One beef trader, Badrus, reported significant sales growth. He\nnormally sells meat from two head of cattle per day, but this has now\nincreased to three head.<\/p>\n
\u201cDemand rises ahead of Eid. Nowadays we can sell three head per day,\nand it always sells out,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The meat stock he sells always runs out because it sells immediately\nafter slaughtering.<\/p>\n
To ensure meat circulating in the market remains safe, the Banyuwangi\nDepartment of Agriculture and Food (Dispertan) conducts inspections at\ntraditional markets. Teams have been deployed to simultaneously inspect\nthe quality of beef.<\/p>\n
Danang Hartanto, head of Banyuwangi\u2019s Dispertan, stated that\ninspection results showed meat was safe and fit for consumption.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe found no adulterated meat, inferior quality meat, or meat\ncontaining harmful chemicals. The public need not worry,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
