        "content": "<p>Surabaya \u2014 Beef prices in Surabaya are climbing ahead of Eid\ncelebrations. The price rise has been observed in traditional markets,\nsuch as Wonokromo Market.<\/p>\n<p>During a survey by Kompas.com at Wonokromo Market on Tuesday (17\nMarch 2026), beef prices are now being sold at approximately 130,000\nrupiah per kilogram.<\/p>\n<p>This price represents an increase of approximately 5,000 rupiah\ncompared to the previous level.<\/p>\n<p>One beef vendor at the market, Amsar (41), stated that beef prices\ncurrently vary depending on their quality.<\/p>\n<p>According to Amsar, price increases actually began to be felt from\nthe start of Ramadan. However, the increases have been gradual.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has been an increase this month too. The increase is around\n5,000 rupiah. From the start of the fasting period there has been an\nincrease, and then there was another rise mid-Ramadan,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, he said, beef prices at the market can reach 130,000\nrupiah, even up to 135,000 rupiah per kilogram.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, prices are estimated to decline again after Eid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt usually tends to drop again after Eid,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Not only beef, but poultry prices are also quite high, ranging around\n40,000 rupiah per kilogram.<\/p>\n<p>A poultry vendor at the market, Saudi (51), said chicken prices are\nlikely to rise further as Eid approaches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChicken is currently 40,000 rupiah per kilogram. It usually tends to\nrise again when Eid comes around because many slaughterhouses close,\u201d\nsaid Saudi.<\/p>\n<p>He noted this amount represents an increase of 7,000 rupiah from\nnormal poultry prices.<\/p>",
