        "content": "<p>'Becak' restricted from main roads<\/p>\n<p>BOGOR (JP): The city administration here will issue a<br>\nregulation in the near future banning three-wheeled<br>\ntransportation, or becak, from major streets.<\/p>\n<p>City administration secretary Itoch Tochija told reporters<br>\nrecently that the new ruling was not aimed at eliminating the<br>\ntraditional public vehicle, whose number is estimated to have<br>\nreached 2,000.<\/p>\n<p>\"We just want to prevent becak from disrupting traffic order<br>\nin the city. The vehicle will no longer be given access to the<br>\ndowntown area and major streets,\" Itoch said.<\/p>\n<p>There were only 996 becak registered in 1994. However,<br>\nfollowing the city's extension of territory a year later, the<br>\nnumber increased by 475.<\/p>\n<p>Itoch said the ban was one component of several rulings aimed<br>\nat enhancing traffic order.
