        "content": "<p>&apos;Becak&apos; drivers, vendors<br>\nstage protest rally<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): More than 1,000 disadvantaged people (photo <br>\nabove), mostly becak (pedicab) drivers and street vendors, staged <br>\na rally at the Office of Coordinating Minister for People&apos;s <br>\nWelfare on Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Organized by several non-governmental organizations, including <br>\nthe Urban Poor Consortium (UPC), the people urged Minister Jusuf <br>\nKalla to press the city administration to revoke City Bylaw No. <br>\n11\/1988, which bans becak from operating in the city.<\/p>\n<p>Political observer Arbi Sanit, who accompanied the protesters, <br>\nsaid the government under President Megawati Soekarnoputri should <br>\nlisten to the voice of the people.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Megawati was earlier supported by the people.
