Beauty shop owner found killed in place of business<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The bloody body of a noted hairdresser and
\nbeautician was found in a bedroom at his beauty shop in Tanah
\nAbang, Central Jakarta, on Friday morning.<\/p>\n
Police suspect 56-year-old Darsan Chaniago, known as Chan and
\nthe owner of Chaniago Salon on Jl. Bendungan Asahan, was killed
\nby close acquaintances, possibly with the help of his servant.<\/p>\n
His half-naked body was discovered on his bed by his servant
\nKismono at 8 a.m.<\/p>\n
A bachelor, Chan's regular clientele included movie stars,
\nmodels and young business executives.<\/p>\n
The servant started work two weeks ago at Chan's salon, which
\nalso served as his residence.<\/p>\n
"It was Kismono who found Haji Chan's body," close neighbor
\nIwan Safwan told reporters.<\/p>\n
Although the servant is still being questioned by police, Iwan
\nquoted Kismono as saying that two men came to the shop at about 8
\np.m. on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The servant said he did not know the two men.<\/p>\n
Several neighbors also saw the men arrive in a red Kijang van,
\nIwan said.<\/p>\n
The car was parked in front of the house until about 8 a.m. on
\nFriday, another neighbor said.<\/p>\n
Upon their arrival, the two guests went with Chan to the
\nsecond-floor living area, Iwan quoted Kismono as saying.<\/p>\n
Kismono believed the men might have been Chan's masseurs.<\/p>\n
"Chan's bedroom is on the first floor, but he would often get
\na massage in the second floor room because he didn't like his
\nbedroom filled with the aroma of massage oil," said Iwan, who
\nsaid he frequently visited Chan's house.<\/p>\n
At about 6:30 a.m., one of the visitors asked Kismono to make
\ntwo cups of coffee. The men drank the coffee and left.<\/p>\n
Iwan said Kismono recounted that he asked the men where Chan
\nwas and they replied he was taking a bath upstairs.<\/p>\n
Kismono became suspicious after hearing nothing from upstairs.
\nHe went upstairs and found the door was locked.<\/p>\n
He found the keys on the dinner table and unlocked the room,
\nIwan said.<\/p>\n
Kismono found his employer dying on the bed and called Iwan
\nfor help.<\/p>\n
"I had the chance to speak with the victim before he was
\nrushed to Mintohardjo (Navy Hospital)," Iwan said.<\/p>\n
He said Chan told him he did not know who attacked him.<\/p>\n
Central Jakarta Police detective chief Maj. Budiono Sandi
\nstrongly believed the killing was committed by close friends of
\nChan.<\/p>\n
He said he was unaware of a motive.<\/p>\n
Police, he added, also suspected the servant because he was
\nthe only person they knew of who saw the two men.<\/p>\n
A dumbbell, believed to be used in the murder, was confiscated
\nfrom the scene, Budiono said.<\/p>\n
Among friends and neighbors, Chan was known for his
\nhospitality and generosity. Neighbors often asked him for help
\nand friends frequently visited and stayed late at his house.<\/p>\n
Several noted public figures, including professional
\nphotographer Darwis Triadi and his wife, senior model Nany Sakri
\nand singer and fashion designer Itang Yunaz, visited the scene on
