Beasts, humans live in peace<\/p>\n
JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: Crocodiles, snakes, boars and human
\nbeings are living in peace, side by side, in the hinterland along
\nthe Mambremo river, Irian Jaya. They mingle playfully.<\/p>\n
This is neither a fiction, nor children's bedtime story but a
\nreal life scene, as told by an official of the local Development
\nPlanning Agency, Rence Kawengian, to Antara yesterday.<\/p>\n
But the area, which has hardly been adulterated by so called
\n\"modernity\", may soon change because the local government plans
\nto turn it into a wildlife sanctuary.<\/p>\n
\"The provincial government is interested in its uniqueness of
\nanimals and may make the area a wildlife reserve,\" Kawengian
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
He said the 1.3 million-hectare area has little contact with
\nthe outside world because it is located deep in the hinterland.<\/p>\n
\"I'm sure it will become one of Irian's major tourist
\ndestinations if it is professionally managed,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The Irian Jaya provincial government has been conducting a
\nfeasibility study for the wildlife sanctuary project. (pan)<\/p>",
