BCEOM completes 65 projects and studies<\/p>\n
At present, BCEOM Indonesia has a permanent staff of more than
\n30 professional expatriates and 200 Indonesians. It has completed
\nmore than 65 projects and studies since its establishment here
\n(1982) and is presently focused on the present issues of
\nIndonesian economics, i.e. poverty alleviation (rural) and the
\nenvironment (rural and urban).<\/p>\n
In this context, it is worth naming one project: the Sulawesi
\nRainfed Agriculture Development Project (SRADP), as two-thirds of
\nthe rural population of Indonesia is engaged in rainfed
\nagriculture.<\/p>\n
SRADP covers all the four Sulawesi provinces. The sites
\nincluded in the SRADP have various upland agricultural problems
\nsuch as unstable soils leading to erosion, inappropriate farming
\nsystems, poor agronomic practices and shifting cultivation.
\nConsequently, the SRADP's main objectives are to improve the
\nsocioeconomic condition of the participating households, to
\nprotect the threatened natural resource environment and to
\nimprove conditions for women. To meet these objectives, BCEOM has
\nchosen a farming systems approach to agricultural development
\nwith particular attention to soil conservation.<\/p>\n
This project, among others dealing with rural and urban poor
\ncommunities, illustrates the BCEOM's ability and willingness to
\nassist the government in community development.<\/p>",
