        "content": "<p>The Balai Besar Pengawas Obat dan Makanan (BBPOM) in Mataram is\ntightening surveillance on the circulation of hazardous products across\nLombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). In its latest operation, the\nsupervisory authority found that unlabelled skin-whitening creams and\nillegal cosmetic packages dominated the risky product discoveries in the\nregion.<\/p>\n<p>Head of BBPOM Mataram, Yogi Abaso, revealed that the seized products\nlacked official distribution permits and did not meet safety\nrequirements. This is considered highly risky for the long-term health\nof consumers\u2019 skin and bodies.<\/p>\n<p>The illegal cosmetic findings were concentrated in the districts of\nEast Lombok and West Lombok. Meanwhile, the circulation of illegal drugs\nsuch as alprazolam, tramadol, and heximer was found to be more\nwidespread, covering Central Lombok, East Lombok, West Lombok, and the\ncity of Mataram.<\/p>\n<p>Yogi stressed that the circulation of illegal drugs poses a serious\nthreat. The use of hard drugs without medical supervision can cause\ndangerous side effects and the risk of dependency. \u201cWe continue to\nconduct consistent monitoring and enforcement because this concerns\npublic safety,\u201d he asserted in Mataram on Wednesday (17\/6).<\/p>\n<p>As a preventive measure, BBPOM Mataram is urging the public to become\nsmart consumers by applying the \u2018Cek KLIK\u2019 principle before purchasing\nmedicinal or cosmetic products. BBPOM also expects active public\nparticipation in reporting any suspicious production or distribution\nactivities in their neighbourhoods. Synergy between the government and\ncitizens is the main key to eradicating the circulation of illegal goods\nin NTB.<\/p>",
