Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The National Alms Agency (BAZNAS) of\nIndonesia continues to strengthen its institutional governance through\nthe implementation of a multi-layered, transparent, and accountable\noversight system. This strategic move is being undertaken as a form of\nimplementing the mandate of the law to ensure that the management of\nZakat (Islamic alms) takes place in accordance with Sharia and\napplicable legal regulations.<\/p>\n
Chairman of BAZNAS RI, Noor Achmad, stated that transparency is the\nmain foundation of the institution in carrying out its mandate from the\ncommunity. He emphasised that BAZNAS\u2019s operations are not without\ncontrol, but are supervised by various official authorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cBAZNAS, in carrying out its duties, operates within a multi-layered\noversight system as stipulated by law, including Sharia supervision,\ninternal audits, external audits, and supervision by relevant\nauthorities,\u201d he said in a written statement on Thursday (February 26,\n2026).<\/p>\n
Specifically, Noor expressed his appreciation for the statement by\nthe Minister of Religious Affairs regarding the strengthening of\nBAZNAS\u2019s oversight function. He said that this is in line with BAZNAS\u2019s\naspirations at the central and regional levels, as well as the\nconstitutional mandate.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe appreciate the statement by the Minister because it is in\naccordance with our expectations and the expectations of the regions,\nand also in accordance with the mandate of Law No.\u00a023 of 2011 concerning\nthe Management of Zakat, Article 34, Paragraph 1, which states that the\nMinister carries out guidance and supervision of BAZNAS and LAZ,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
He added that this initiative opens up opportunities for\nstrengthening the institution\u2019s structure in a more comprehensive manner\nin the future.<\/p>\n
\u201cThus, the Minister may feel the need to form a new body within\nBAZNAS, namely a Supervisory Board, as exists in the Lembaga Amil Zakat\n(LAZ - Indonesian Zakat Institutions). So far, based on existing\nregulations, BAZNAS has only been supervised by the DPR (House of\nRepresentatives), the Inspector General of the Ministry of Religious\nAffairs, Public Accounting Firms, and internal supervision. With the\ninput and thoughts from the Minister, in the future, BAZNAS will be even\nstronger in implementing the principle of 3 Aman (Sharia-compliant,\nRegulation-compliant, and compliant with the Unitary State of the\nRepublic of Indonesia),\u201d he emphasised.<\/p>\n
Noor explained that BAZNAS is very open to all forms of strengthening\noversight in order to ensure that Zakat funds are truly distributed to\nthe intended recipients in a targeted manner. In line with the\nincreasing size of BAZNAS, the formation of a Supervisory Board is very\nnecessary.<\/p>\n
