Indonesia's National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas RI) has built three emergency mosques in Gaza to provide worship facilities for communities affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Each mosque, spanning 180 square metres and accommodating up to 100 people, was completed in time for Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, symbolising Indonesian solidarity with Palestinians amid widespread destruction of public infrastructure. The initiative, funded through zakat, infak, and sedekah contributions, forms part of broader Baznas aid efforts including food, healthcare, and clean water supplies to support Gaza's residents.

The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas RI) has established three
emergency mosques in various areas of Gaza, Palestine, to facilitate the
worship needs of communities impacted by the humanitarian crisis in the
region. The construction sites are located in the Asdaa Region Northwest
Khan Younis, Abu Ali Eyad Street, and Deir Al-Balah. Baznas RI’s Chief
Secretary, Subhan Cholid, stated that the emergency mosques were built
in response to the urgent needs of the community for places of worship
amid the prolonged conflict. “Alhamdulillah, three emergency mosques
have been completed by Baznas in Gaza and are already in use during
Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. Each emergency mosque covers about 180 square
metres and can accommodate up to 100 people,” Subhan said in a written
statement on Monday (30/3). He explained that the ongoing conflict has
caused extensive damage to public facilities, including mosques,
rendering them unusable and severely limiting local worship activities.
Subhan noted that this programme represents Baznas’s effort to provide
quick solutions through emergency mosques, ensuring the community has
decent and safe places for worship. Beyond mere physical facilities,
Subhan emphasised that the construction of these emergency mosques also
conveys a message of solidarity from Indonesian society to Palestine.
“This serves as a symbol of care and togetherness from Indonesian
society for Palestine,” said Subhan, who is also the Secretary of Baznas
RI’s Palestine Task Force. “We hope these mosques can be utilised
optimally by the community for worship, as well as serving as spaces for
gathering and strengthening community bonds amid the conflict,” he
added. Subhan also expressed appreciation to all parties who contributed
to the construction, particularly the muzaki (donors). “The
establishment of these three emergency mosques would not have been
possible without the support of muzaki who entrusted the distribution of
zakat, infak, and sedekah through Baznas. These emergency mosques are
expected to help Gaza’s community perform their worship with greater
khusyuk (devotion) and comfort amid challenging conditions,” he said.
During Ramadan 1447 H/2026 AD, Baznas continues to distribute various
humanitarian aids to Palestine, including food packages, hot meals,
healthcare services, clean water provision, clothing, shelter tents for
families, blankets, emergency mosques, and classroom tents to support
educational activities for the community.
",
