        "content": "<p>Pangandaran (ANTARA) - The Indonesian General Elections Supervisory\nAgency (Bawaslu) believes that the implementation of digital voting\nsystems, or e-voting, for the 2029 general election requires more\nin-depth study.<\/p>\n<p>Bawaslu member Lolly Suhenty, speaking after the \u201cBawaslu Leadership\nReflection Ahead of 5 Years\u201d event in Pangandaran, West Java, on\nThursday, stated that a complete and thorough assessment of e-voting is\nnecessary before the system is widely implemented.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cE-voting is something that must be prepared thoroughly; in this\ncontext, there must be a complete study. For instance, if it is\nimplemented, the discussion should consider a gradual rollout rather\nthan all at once, considering Indonesia\u2019s geography,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, she noted that the study must be conducted using strong\nacademic papers to determine whether the system is optimal or not.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause our goal in involving technology in elections is to make\nthings easier, not more difficult. We must ensure that does not happen.\nTherefore, the study must be finalised first. In this context, Bawaslu\nis currently preparing our study on these issues,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the General Elections Commission (KPU) Commissioner,\nBetty Epsilon Idroos, stated that they have prepared a prototype\ne-voting machine developed by the KPU\u2019s Data and Information Technology\nCentre (Pusdatin).<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the KPU has been studying the implementation of\ne-voting in various countries, such as Estonia, Brazil, and the\nPhilippines.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, she mentioned that there are still challenges in\nimplementing e-voting, ranging from transparency issues that could\naffect public trust and the risk of cyberattacks, to the uneven internet\naccess across Indonesia.<\/p>",
