        "content": "<p>Batam's telecom venture<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The state-owned PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia<br>\n(Telkom) has signed an agreement with PT Batamindo Investment<br>\nCorporation to set up a joint venture company, PT Batam Bintan<br>\nTelekomunikasi, with an investment of US$5 million.<\/p>\n<p>A Telkom statement said yesterday that there were five million<br>\nshares, each with a nominal value of $1.<\/p>\n<p>The joint venture is 95 percent owned by Batamindo Investment<br>\nCorporation and 5 percent by Telkom.<\/p>\n<p>Batam Bintan Telekomunikasi, based in Batam, is designed to<br>\noperate telecommunication network services, called wirelines, on<br>\nthe islands of Batam and Bintan, both in Riau province.<\/p>\n<p>The new company will provide wirelines primarily for the Batam<br>\nIndustrial Park, the Bintan Beach International Resort and the<br>\nBintan Industrial Estate.<\/p>\n<p>The chief executive of Telkom, A.A Nasution, and the director<br>\nof Batamindo Investment Corporation, S.A. Habibie, signed the<br>\nagreement here Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The joint venture replaces a venture set up in 1992 between PT<br>\nTelekomindo Primabhakti-Singapore Telecom International and Batam<br>\nInvestment Corporation.(kod)<\/p>",
