The city of Batam has officially taken a major step in education by\nbuilding the Integrated Merah Putih People\u2019s School in the Rempang area,\nGalang District. The project is designed to be the first model in\nIndonesia to combine primary, junior secondary and senior secondary\nlevels within a single boarding school complex with internationally\nstandard facilities.<\/p>\n
The construction phase was marked by a joint community activity at\nthe project site on Sunday (2\/8\/2026). The commitment was announced\ndirectly by the Mayor of Batam and Head of BP Batam, Amsakar Achmad,\naccompanied by the Deputy Mayor of Batam and Deputy Head of BP Batam, Li\nClaudia Chandra.<\/p>\n
The construction is part of the strategic programme of the\nadministration of President Prabowo Subianto to break the chain of\nintergenerational poverty. Built on 18.5 hectares of BP Batam\u2019s\nmanagement rights (HPL) land, the school is dedicated to children from\nlow-income families across the city of Batam.<\/p>\n
Mayor of Batam Amsakar Achmad affirmed that the project is a\nlong-term investment to produce an outstanding generation that masters\ntechnology and can compete globally.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis school is not merely about constructing a building, but about\nbuilding the future of Batam\u2019s generations,\u201d said Amsakar. He added that\nalthough it is located in Rempang, its beneficiaries include children\nfrom low-income families across Batam, so they can receive equal\neducational opportunities without a financial burden.<\/p>\n
Echoing this, Li Claudia Chandra emphasised the importance of the\ngovernment\u2019s commitment to access to quality education. \u201cThe government\nwants children from low-income families to also receive a proper\neducation,\u201d she stated. She said the curriculum will focus on vocational\neducation and technological mastery so that graduates are ready for work\nor entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n
The Rempang Integrated Merah Putih People\u2019s School adopts a boarding\nschool concept. All students\u2019 needs, from accommodation and nutrition to\nhealthcare and learning facilities, are provided free of charge.<\/p>\n
The school\u2019s presence is also projected to support Batam\u2019s position\nas an international investment hub. Through its vocational track, local\nchildren are expected to meet the workforce needs of high-technology\nindustry, manufacturing, logistics and the digital economy sectors, so\nthey do not remain mere spectators amid the region\u2019s rapid\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n
Technical preparations are currently being accelerated, from the\ncompletion of the PKKPR, environmental impact assessment (AMDAL), to\nbuilding approval (PBG). Initial works such as site fencing and flood\nmitigation have already begun. BP Batam targets completion of the entire\nconstruction process by 2028, while continuing to prioritise humane\ncommunication with the surrounding community.<\/p>\n
Nationally, the government has inaugurated 166 People\u2019s Schools\nacross 34 provinces.
