        "content": "<p>Bass plans Asian expansion<\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE (AFP): Bass Hotels Friday unveiled a US$70 million<br>\nexpansion plan for its Inter-Continental Hotel brand, targeting<br>\nthe growing business and tourism travel market in the Asia<br>\nPacific region.<\/p>\n<p>Fourteen hotels will be established or refurbished over the<br>\nnext two years in China, India, Malaysia, French Polynesia and<br>\nNew Zealand.<\/p>\n<p>Bass, which operates more than 3,000 hotels around the world,<br>\nincluding the Holiday Inn chain, has ear-marked Asia-Pacific as a<br>\nkey growth region.<\/p>\n<p>\"We have been experiencing a significant growth in visitor<br>\nlevels in the region,\" said Richard Hartman, the managing<br>\ndirector of Bass Hotels Asia Pacific division.<\/p>\n<p>\"Each and every market in Asia Pacific recorded a boost in<br>\ntourism arrivals in 1998 to 1999, with an average increase across<br>\nthe region of nine percent.<\/p>\n<p>\"We expect this growth to continue and strengthen over the<br>\nnext two years.\"<\/p>",
