        "content": "<p>Indonesia is further strengthening its position as a centre for\ninternational collaboration in the field of search and rescue (SAR).\nThis was marked by the opening of Indonesia International Search and\nRescue (IISAR) 2026 at the Nusantara International Convention Exhibition\n(NICE), PIK 2, Tangerang, on Thursday (9\/7\/2026). The four-day\ninternational event brings together domestic and foreign stakeholders to\ndiscuss the challenges of rescue operations in the era of climate change\nand to introduce the latest SAR technology. Coordinating Minister for\nHuman Development and Culture Pratikno assessed that the implementation\nof IISAR 2026 is highly relevant given the increasing threat of\ndisasters due to climate change and the high risk of disasters in\nIndonesia, which is located in the Ring of Fire. \u2018Climate change is\nincreasing, Indonesia is also an archipelagic country and is in the Ring\nof Fire. Hydrometeorological disasters also continue to haunt us,\u2019\nPratikno said. According to him, these challenges make search and rescue\ncapabilities increasingly important because every second is crucial in\ndetermining the safety of victims. He stated that strengthening SAR\noperations cannot rely solely on past experience. The use of the latest\ntechnology must go hand in hand with improving the quality of human\nresources and strengthening the empathy of rescue personnel. He also\nreminded that SAR operations are a shared responsibility involving\nBasarnas, the Indonesian National Armed Forces, the National Police,\ncentral and regional governments, and volunteers. \u2018In rescue, minutes\nare very valuable to save lives. Therefore, all parties must be able to\nmove quickly,\u2019 he stressed. Head of the National Search and Rescue\nAgency (Basarnas) Mohammad Syafii explained that IISAR 2026 is a\nfirst-time event conceived as an implementation of the mandate of Law\nNumber 29 of 2014 concerning Search and Rescue. According to him, this\nactivity is not merely an exhibition, but a platform for communication,\neducation, coordination, and collaboration for the national and\ninternational SAR community. He noted that 28 countries are involved in\nthe implementation of IISAR 2026, albeit with varying participation,\nranging from discussion forums and technology exhibitions to rescue\nskills competitions. In this international forum, participants exchange\nknowledge regarding rescue operation standards from various world\norganisations such as the International Civil Aviation Organization, the\nInternational Maritime Organization, and the International Search and\nRescue Advisory Group. Syafii said this learning is very important as a\nreference for Basarnas in handling various types of search and rescue\noperations, from plane crashes and maritime accidents to disaster\nmanagement. IISAR 2026 also features competitions between national and\ninternational SAR teams as a means of sharing operational field\nexperiences. \u2018We want all participants to gain education about\noperational mechanisms, working relationships, and the latest\ndevelopments in emergency handling,\u2019 he said. One of the main\nattractions of IISAR 2026 is the SAR technology exhibition featuring\nnearly 57 booths from various companies and institutions. Various\ninnovations on display include emergency communication technology, as\nwell as air, land, sea, and underwater rescue equipment. Several\ncompanies such as PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI), Bell Helicopter, and\nvarious international SAR technology providers also introduced the\nlatest solutions to support rescue operations. Syafii said his party\ndeliberately provided space for industry partners to showcase\ninnovations that can be utilised in future SAR operations. \u2018We want to\nget the latest technological information to support air, land, and\nunderwater SAR, so that in an emergency all potentials can complement\neach other and synergise,\u2019 he explained. Unlike the forums and\ncompetitions attended by registered participants, the IISAR 2026\nexhibition area is open to the general public. Visitors can see various\nrescue technologies, operational vehicles, and modern SAR equipment\nevery day from 11.00 to 19.00 WIB. Basarnas recorded that around 1,500\nvisitors had registered online on the first day of the event. IISAR 2026\nFounder Candra Tri Saktiyanto expressed hope that the event would\nbroaden public understanding that the SAR industry has a significant\nrole in daily life. \u2018Search and Rescue is very important in emergency\ncontexts wherever we are. Although this is a niche market, the SAR\nindustry has a lot of potential to be developed because it is directly\nrelated to safety at home, in buildings, and in various community\nactivities,\u2019 he said. He also hoped that IISAR 2026 would give birth to\nstrategic collaborations, accelerate technology transfer, increase human\nresource capacity, and strengthen global synergy in facing various\nemergency situations. \u2018Territorial boundaries only separate countries,\nbut humanitarian values always unite our goals.
