        "content": "<p>Banjarmasin (ANTARA) - Basarnas has extended the search and rescue\n(SAR) operations for the 126 victims who remain missing following the\naccident involving the Motor Ship (KM) Virgo Transport 8, which occurred\nin the Masalembo waters, Java Sea, on Sunday (13\/09). The extension will\ncover the next seven days.<\/p>\n<p>Basarnas Operations Director, Rear Admiral TNI Yudhi Bramantyo Nur\nSasongko, stated that the decision was made after coordinating with\nstakeholders supporting the SAR operation, as well as the salvage team\ncoordinated by the ship\u2019s owner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday marks the seventh day. We have declared that we will extend\nthis operation for the next seven days,\u201d said Yudhi during a press\nconference regarding the progress of the seventh day of the KM Virgo\nTransport 8 accident, held at Trisakti Port, Banjarmasin, South\nKalimantan, on Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that two salvage teams coordinated by the ship\u2019s owner\nonly arrived on Saturday and were still conducting meetings and\ndiscussions with relevant parties late into the night to determine the\nsteps for the salvage operation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe salvage operation that will be carried out may take a long time,\nperhaps longer than we imagine. We cannot specify when, but it is\nclearly being discussed by the expert team from the ship owner\u2019s side,\u201d\nhe added.<\/p>\n<p>Basarnas is extending the SAR operation while awaiting the results of\nthe salvage team\u2019s discussions and the steps to be taken in handling the\nshipwreck, ensuring that search and rescue efforts can continue\naccording to developments on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>During the seventh day of the SAR operation, the joint team did not\nfind any new victims in the search for the KMP Virgo Transport 8\naccident.<\/p>\n<p>As of the seventh day of the SAR operation, Saturday night at 21:00\nWITA, Basarnas confirmed that 117 victims have been found, consisting of\n108 survivors and nine fatalities, while 126 people remain missing out\nof the total 243 individuals listed on the KMP Virgo Transport 8\nmanifest.<\/p>\n<p>KMP Virgo Transport 8 was carrying 243 people when it departed from\nSurabaya, East Java, bound for Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, on 12\nSeptember 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The vessel was reported to have encountered bad weather and lost\ncontact on 13 September 2026 at approximately 02:00 WITA, before being\ndiscovered later that same day in a capsized condition in the Masalembo\nwaters, Java Sea.<\/p>",
