Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Police\u2019s Directorate of Special\nCrimes (Dirtipidter) of the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim)\nevacuated two Indonesian nationals who were suspected of being held\ncaptive and assaulted by an illegal tin-smuggling syndicate in\nMalaysia.<\/p>\n
Director of Special Crimes (Dirtipidter) Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier\nGeneral Pol. Moh. Irhamni, in Jakarta on Friday, said the evacuation was\ncarried out in cooperation with the Balai Pelayanan Pelindungan Pekerja\nMigran Indonesia Kepulauan Riau and the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala\nLumpur.<\/p>\n
\u2018We carried out the rescue of our citizens who were being held\ntogether with other Indonesians,\u2019 Irhamni said.<\/p>\n
He explained that three people were suspected of holding the two\nvictims. The five are believed to be part of a syndicate for smuggling\nillegal tin ore from Bangka to Malaysia.<\/p>\n
\u2018The victims had received money, but the tin ore was not sent to\nMalaysia,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
The case was subsequently reported to the Dittipidter Bareskrim\nPolri. Investigators then coordinated with BP3MI of the Riau Islands and\nthe Police Attach\u00e9 in Malaysia.<\/p>\n
Thanks to coordination with the Royal Malaysia Police, the two\nvictims were successfully evacuated from the detention site.<\/p>\n
He said that authorities had foiled the smuggling activities of the\nnetwork several times.<\/p>\n
