The Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian\nNational Police has uncovered a case of gold smuggling sourced from\nillegal mining operations in various regions of Indonesia to Hong Kong.\nBareskrim arrested a suspect with the initials R at Soekarno-Hatta\nAirport moments after he landed from Japan.<\/p>\n
Director of Certain Crimes at Bareskrim, Brigadier General Mohammad\nIrhamni, explained that suspect R is an Indonesian citizen. He was\narrested on Tuesday morning (25\/8). The arrest was carried out by\ninvestigators after monitoring the suspect\u2019s movements.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe conducted a search as a follow-up development from suspect R, who\nwas arrested by investigators upon his arrival from Japan at\nSoekarno-Hatta Airport,\u201d Irhamni said in a written statement on\nWednesday (26\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
Bareskrim then expanded the investigation by searching a house\nbelieved to be the syndicate\u2019s base. The house was occupied by a Chinese\nnational with the initials GCZ, who is now believed to have fled\nabroad.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe continued with a search at one of the houses that serves as their\nhome base, the home base of GCZ. GCZ is a Chinese national who\naccommodated and smuggled the gold to Hong Kong,\u201d Irhamni explained.<\/p>\n
During the search, police found gold processing equipment and Rp60\nmillion in cash. Transaction documents were also discovered.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn this search, we found several tools used for gold refining that\nwould later be smuggled. There was a sum of money of approximately Rp60\nmillion that we seized, along with several transaction documents and\nagreement documents,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Irhamni stressed that his team will not stop at the arrest of R.\nPolice are coordinating with the Financial Transaction Reports and\nAnalysis Centre (PPATK) to trace the syndicate\u2019s financial flows and\nassets.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom these transaction documents, we will attempt to coordinate with\nPPATK to trace their financial transactions and where their assets are\nstored.
