The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) has partnered with the\nAustralian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) to strengthen\nquarantine laboratory capacity and improve testing competence and\nquality. Through its Standard Testing Quarantine division, Barantin is\nenhancing the technical capacity of its laboratories via Laboratory\nMapping Tool (LMT) training and Proficiency Test (PT) Refresher\nprogrammes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis activity is the result of cooperation with Australia\u2019s\nDepartment of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) through the\nACDP Regional Emerging Disease Support (REDS) programme,\u201d stated the\nHead of Barantin\u2019s Standard Testing Quarantine, Risma JP Silitonga, in a\nstatement in Jakarta on Monday.<\/p>\n
She noted that the training aims to increase laboratory personnel\u2019s\nunderstanding of LMT implementation while strengthening capabilities in\nconducting proficiency testing. The LMT serves as a vital instrument for\nevaluating laboratory capacity, identifying strengths and areas for\nimprovement, and supporting sustainable laboratory development\nplanning.<\/p>\n
The training featured Lee Trinidad, Project Manager of the ACDP\nInternational REDS Programme, and ACDP Proficiency Testing expert James\nHollier, both of whom provided training to Standard Testing Quarantine\nLaboratory personnel on LMT concepts and application.<\/p>\n
Through the LMT, laboratory capacity is comprehensively assessed,\ncovering aspects such as infrastructure, organisation, security,\nequipment, management of materials and reagents, human resources,\ntraining, quality assurance, bio-risk management, waste management, and\noccupational health and safety (OHS). According to Risma, the assessment\nresults will serve as the basis for formulating laboratory capacity\nstrengthening strategies and determining future development\npriorities.<\/p>\n
As part of the series of activities, the ACDP team also conducted\non-site visits and direct assessments of the Standard Testing Quarantine\nLaboratory facilities. The assessment utilised a semi-quantitative\napproach to identify areas requiring further reinforcement and\nimprovement.<\/p>\n
