Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)\/Head of the National\nDevelopment Planning Agency (Bappenas) Rachmat Pambudy has stated that\nthe increasing gradient of the El Nino phenomenon has an extraordinarily\nlarge influence.<\/p>\n
\u201cEl Nino, La Nina, these are not something new, but their gradient,\nday by day, year by year, turns out to have an extraordinary impact,\u201d\nsaid Rachmat Pambudy at the National Dialogue on \u201cStrengthening\nCross-Sector Responses in Facing the Impact of a Strong El Nino\u201d, held\nat the Bappenas building in Jakarta on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
He explained that climate issues cannot be taken lightly, because\nclimate change, particularly concerning rising ambient temperatures, has\na major influence on Indonesia\u2019s natural conditions.<\/p>\n
The climate issue itself, he noted, has been developing for more than\n20 years and has been addressed by several countries such as India,\nwhich has prepared anticipatory measures to face drought, flooding,\ndisease mitigation, and improvements to crops vulnerable to weather\nchange.<\/p>\n
In this context, Bappenas is responsible for national planning,\nespecially regarding food, energy, and water issues that affect\nIndonesia\u2019s climatic conditions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must ensure that the responses we build (in facing climate\nchange) are no longer merely reactive, but rather integrated, measurable\nearly action firmly rooted in our climate analysis. With a foundation of\nscience and cross-sector cooperation, we are not only safeguarding the\nsustainability of national development, but also proving the resilience\nof the Indonesian nation against global climate dynamics,\u201d said the\nBappenas Head.<\/p>\n
Rachmat Pambudy emphasised that the Meteorology, Climatology, and\nGeophysics Agency (BMKG) is an institution that plays a crucial role in\nsafeguarding the certainty of food, energy, and water.<\/p>\n
Regarding water specifically, he reminded that as an archipelagic\nnation, Indonesia ought to have made its management a priority.<\/p>\n
\u201cAn archipelagic country should never lack water and never have\nexcess water, because both can be overcome. However, all of this depends\non the readiness of the BMKG,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cClimate issues, particularly in Indonesia, should also be manageable\nby studying what has already happened.
