The Bantul Regency government in Yogyakarta Special Region has mandated that wastewater treatment installations (IPAL) are essential for the operation of Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) under the free nutritious meal programme. Officials noted that some existing IPALs at partner kitchens fail to meet standards or capacity, prompting inspections and directives from the Environmental Agency to address contamination issues affecting local wells. Bupati Abdul Halim Muslih emphasised that SPPG cannot operate without proper IPAL to safeguard both the environment and the safety of meals provided to children.

Bantul (ANTARA) - The Bantul Regency Government in the Special Region
of Yogyakarta states that a wastewater treatment installation (IPAL) is
one of the requirements for the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit
(SPPG) to operate. “So, the IPAL is one of the operational requirements
for the SPPG,” said Assistant for Government and Welfare Affairs of the
Bantul Regional Secretariat, Hermawan Setiaji, in Bantul on Saturday.
According to him, some IPALs at partner kitchens for the free nutritious
meal (MBG) programme in Bantul are not yet up to standard and lack
sufficient capacity. “That’s why we are pushing for improvements;
yesterday we checked the condition of the IPAL at the SPPG, and the
Environmental Agency (DLH) will provide guidance,” he said. Hermawan
mentioned that several SPPG needing IPAL standard upgrades include those
in Trimurti and Srandakan areas, without specifying exact numbers. This
follows reports of resident wells contaminated by SPPG waste. “The main
point is that we have given them 10 days to resolve IPAL-related issues,
with the hope that the installations will truly meet standards,” he
said. Meanwhile, Bantul Regent Abdul Halim Muslih stated that a
standard-compliant IPAL must be in place before SPPG operations begin to
avoid environmental impacts. “So, before obtaining permits and IPAL,
SPPG must not operate, because besides ensuring environmental safety, we
also want to guarantee the safety of consumption for children receiving
free nutritious meals,” he said.
",
