Museum Multatuli in collaboration with the DPR Commission X\nAspiration Program led by Bonnie Triyana will host the Bung Karno Month\n2026 event in June next year. A range of activities has been planned,\nincluding photo and letter exhibitions, comics of Bung Karno, the\nMustikarasa Culinary Festival, discussions on Bung Karno\u2019s ideologies,\nand the Istigasah Haul Bung Karno ceremony.<\/p>\n
Bonnie explained that Museum Multatuli was chosen as the main venue\nbecause it is known as a public space bringing together cultural\ncommunities, history enthusiasts, and the youth.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince its establishment in 2018, Museum Multatuli has become a\nmeeting point for cultural advocates and social activities in\nRangkasbitung. The museum is not only a public space for learning about\ncolonial history but also a platform for exchanging ideas and creativity\namong the youth. Therefore, Bung Karno Month is well-suited to be held\nat Museum Multatuli,\u201d Bonnie stated in a press release on Monday, 1\nJune.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Istigasah Haul Bung Karno ceremony will be held in\nMenes, Pandeglang Regency.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Haul Bung Karno event will take place in Menes, Pandeglang as it\nhas long been recognised as Banten\u2019s spiritual centre,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Bonnie highlighted Bung Karno\u2019s strong historical ties with Banten,\nparticularly Lebak Regency. He noted that Indonesia\u2019s first president\nvisited Lebak three times: in 1943 to Bayah, in 1951 to observe\ncommunity conditions, and in 1957 when delivering a speech on the\nNational Front at Rangkasbitung Square.<\/p>\n
According to Bonnie, Bung Karno\u2019s ideas remain relevant today,\nespecially in addressing evolving global geopolitical challenges.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany of Bung Karno\u2019s teachings are still relevant today. Consider\nthe government\u2019s hesitant stance on current geopolitical situations.\nBung Karno advocated steadfastness in defending the independence of\ncolonised nations, as demonstrated in the Asian-African Movement. This\nis just one example of his enduring political legacy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He hopes the event will serve as an educational platform for the\npublic, particularly the youth, to learn about the proclamator\u2019s\nideologies and exemplary conduct.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope the public, especially young people, will become familiar\nwith Bung Karno\u2019s teachings and draw lessons from them. Popular culture\napproaches are crucial today as they enable us to engage the youth in\nloving their national history and emulating founding figures,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n
Ubaidilah Muchtar, Chair of the Bung Karno Month 2026 Organising\nCommittee, stated the event aims to spread Bung Karno\u2019s spirit,\ninspiration, and ideas to the public.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to show that Bung Karno does not belong solely to PDI\nPerjuangan but to all Indonesians,\u201d Ubaidilah said.<\/p>\n
He explained that the highlight of the event is the Mustikarasa\nCulinary Festival, inspired by a legendary cookbook conceived by Bung\nKarno.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn 1960, Bung Karno asked the Agriculture Minister to collect\nrecipes from across Indonesia. The result was the Mustikarasa book\npublished in 1964. We aim to share this spirit through the festival\nwhile supporting small and medium enterprises in Lebak Regency,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Besides the culinary festival, organisers have prepared photo and\nletter exhibitions, comics about Bung Karno, and discussion forums on\nthe first president\u2019s ideas.<\/p>\n
Organisers expect around 50,000 visitors to attend the June 2026\nevents.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur primary target is the people of Banten and Jabodetabek residents\nlooking for holiday destinations in Rangkasbitung and Pandeglang,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Ubaidilah added that the entire event involves local communities,\nincluding SMEs, artists, cultural figures, and organisers. Through this\ninitiative, they hope to increase tourism to Lebak and Pandeglang,\nboosting the local culture and tourism sectors.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe aim to attract more visitors to Lebak and Pandeglang to\nrevitalise local culture and tourism. We also want to encourage\ncommunity initiatives in developing, protecting, and utilising culture\nas part of cultural advancement,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
