        "content": "<p>JAKARTA \u2014 Restrictions on social media access for children under 16\nyears of age are expected to provide relief for parents facing the\noverwhelming tide of information that could sweep their children\naway.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, March 7, 2026, the Government, through the Ministry of\nDigital Communication (Komdigi), officially issued Regulation of the\nMinister of Communication and Digital Affairs Number 9 of 2026 on the\nimplementation of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the\nManagement of Electronic System Operations in Child Protection,\nabbreviated as PP Tunas (Child Sprouts Regulation).<\/p>\n<p>This policy was created based on direct instruction from President\nPrabowo Subianto, who hopes that children in Indonesia grow up in a safe\nand healthy digital environment.<\/p>\n<p>This was previously mentioned by Prabowo at the State Palace in\nJakarta on March 28, 2025, when he described the PP Tunas policy as the\ngovernment\u2019s commitment to protecting children in the digital space.\n\u201cToday, the Tunas policy is a manifestation of our commitment to\nprotecting children from various digital threats and risks, whilst\nensuring they gain the best benefits from technological development,\u201d\nPrabowo said.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasised that this derivative regulation confirms the delay of\naccount access for children under 16 years old on high-risk digital\nplatforms, including social media and networking services.<\/p>\n<p>The basis remains the same: high-risk digital platforms are deemed to\npose increasingly real threats to child development.<\/p>\n<p>The implementation of this account access ban for children will begin\non March 28, 2026. Accounts for those under 16 years old will be\ndeactivated gradually across various platforms, starting with YouTube,\nTikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Thread, X, Bigolive, and Roblox.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis process will be carried out gradually until all platforms\nfulfil their compliance obligations,\u201d officials stated.<\/p>\n<p>The policy is presented as a form of government support for parents\nwho are struggling to filter negative online content from their\nchildren.<\/p>",
