Banks gear up for ATMs, on-line banking services<\/p>\n

Need to do a banking transaction? Go to the nearest automated
\nteller machine (ATMs) instead, with banks closed on Friday.<\/p>\n
The Central Bank announced earlier that as the year had come
\nto an end there would be no banking activities on Friday. Normal
\nactivities will resume on Monday.<\/p>\n
However, customers who need that must do banking transactions
\nwill not have to worry, as banks have taken the necessary
\nadditional measures to ensure that there are enough funds at the
\nATMs and that on-line banking is available.<\/p>\n
Indonesia's largest lender Bank Mandiri, for example, has
\nmonitored all of its ATMs and has made sure that those located in
\nstrategic places have enough cash to serve customers.<\/p>\n
On public holidays when traffic in transactions via ATMs is
\nhigh, Mandiri provides around Rp 7 trillion (about US$700
\nmillion) to assure the availability of cash, the bank's corporate
\nsecretary Eko Putro said on Thursday.<\/p>\n
ATMs will also be monitored during the weekend and will be
\nreloaded, if necessary.<\/p>\n
Other banks have taken similar measures during public holidays
\nas the need for fresh funds is common.<\/p>\n
Customers can also shift temporarily to phone or on-line
\nbanking for transactions other than cash withdrawals.<\/p>\n
Separately, Bank Permata's corporate secretary Imam T. Saptono
\nexplained that his company had not done any additional
\npreparation, as the year-end holiday period would be shorter this
\nyear.<\/p>\n
