Bank Universal begins 'service on wheels'<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Bank Universal launched yesterday its mobile
\nservice as part of its program to offer more flexibility to
\nclients.<\/p>\n
The bank's senior vice president Auddie Alexander Wiranata
\nsaid here yesterday the "service on wheels" would provide
\ncustomers with flexibility in making transactions outside offices
\nand after working hours.<\/p>\n
Auddie said with the new service, also called "Flexi-trans"
\nshort for "flexible transaction", Bank Universal would improve
\nservices to its old customers and net about 1,000 new customers a
\nyear.<\/p>\n
He said the bank would operate a yellow and blue van equipped
\nwith modern telecommunications.<\/p>\n
The van would be able to provide most services a branch could
\nhandle, he said.<\/p>\n
Customers will be able to withdraw money from an automatic
\nteller machine (ATM) facility attached to the van, deposit money,
\nopen an account and transfer money or pay credit card bills.<\/p>\n
Bank staff will process transactions via satellite or modem
\nwith the bank's headquarters.<\/p>\n
The satellite disc installed at the mobile bank uses the
\nAutomatic Antena Controller with Global Positioning System,
\nmaking it easier to locate a satellite.<\/p>\n
"We are the first, outside the military, to use this system in
\nthe Asia Pacific," said Auddie.<\/p>\n
Bank vice president Inkawan D. Jusi said mobile banks would be
\npresent at major festivals, exhibitions, office centers, malls,
\nand would support the operation of the bank's branches in case of
\ndisaster.<\/p>\n
"Today we have five vans serving Jakarta, but we plan to add
\nanother 10 vans next year," said Inkawan.<\/p>\n
He said the mobile banks were designed by the bank's research
\nand development team and cost between Rp 500 million (US$
\n210,000) and Rp 600 million each, equal with the amount of
\ninvestment to open a bank branch office.<\/p>\n
Each van will be secured by an armed security guard and will
\nbe equipped with an alarm connected to the headquarters, Inkawan
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Bank Universal, a subsidiary of the Astra group, has 64
\nbranches and is ranked among the 10 most well-known banks in
\nIndonesia, according to the Survey Research Indonesia. (jsk)<\/p>",
