Bank Indonesia maintains an optimistic outlook for the national economy in 2026, projecting full-year growth between 4.9 and 5.7 percent. This forecast persists despite a recorded slowdown in the second quarter, with the central bank citing strong domestic demand and government policy synergy as key drivers. Household consumption and a significant rise in government spending, partly linked to salary payments and a free nutritious meal programme, underpinned the Q2 performance.

Bank Indonesia (BI) remains optimistic about the national economic
outlook throughout 2026. Although Indonesia’s economic growth in the
second quarter of 2026 slowed compared with the previous quarter, the
central bank projects full-year growth to remain within a positive range
of 4.9 to 5.7 percent.

The projection is supported by strong domestic demand, which is
expected to continue serving as the main driver of the national economy.
Bank Indonesia also considers policy synergy between the government and
the central bank to be an important factor in maintaining economic
growth momentum amid various challenges.

Bank Indonesia Executive Director Ramdan Denny said Indonesia’s
economic growth in the second quarter of 2026 was recorded at 5.29
percent year on year (yoy). Although lower than the first quarter of
2026 growth of 5.61 percent (yoy), the figure is still seen as
demonstrating the resilience of the domestic economy.

Bank Indonesia maintains its projection for Indonesia’s overall
economic growth in 2026 at a range of 4.9 to 5.7 percent (yoy).

Ramdan Denny explained that this optimism is based on the prospect of
continued strong domestic demand, supported by various government and
Bank Indonesia policies aimed at maintaining stability while promoting
economic growth.

“Bank Indonesia continues to strengthen its policy mix through
monetary, macroprudential and payment system policies that work in close
synergy with government policies to maintain stability while continuing
to encourage sustainable economic growth,” said Ramdan Denny on Thursday
(6/8/2026).

According to him, this policy combination is expected to maintain
national economic growth momentum throughout the year even though global
economic conditions still face various challenges.

Bank Indonesia noted that economic growth in the second quarter of
2026 was still supported by domestic economic activity, particularly
household consumption and investment.

From the expenditure side, household consumption grew by 5.06 percent
(yoy). This growth was driven by increased public activity during the
school holiday period and the momentum of National Religious Holidays
(HBKN).

In addition to household consumption, government consumption also
showed a significant increase. In the second quarter of 2026, government
consumption grew by 15.97 percent (yoy).

This increase was supported by higher realisation of personnel
spending, including the payment of the 13th salary, as well as spending
on goods and services related to the implementation of the Free
Nutritious Meals Programme (MBG).
",
