        "content": "<p>Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Board of Governors of Bank Indonesia\n(BI) again maintained the benchmark BI Rate at 5.75% in August 2026.\nThis decision marks the third consecutive month the BI Rate has been\nheld since the board of governors meeting in June 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Bank Indonesia Board of Governors Meeting on 18-19 August 2026\ndecided to maintain the BI-Rate at 5.75%,\u201d said Acting Governor of BI\nDestry Damayanti at a press conference on Wednesday (19\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Destry said the decision remains consistent with efforts to\nstrengthen rupiah exchange rate stability from the impact of high global\nturmoil due to the war in the Middle East, maintain the inflation target\nof 2.5\u00b11% in 2026 and 2027, and support sustainable economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>Along with the benchmark rate being held at 5.75%, the BI board of\ngovernors also decided to continue expanding incentive policies and a\nnumber of other policies to increase foreign capital inflows and\nstrengthen rupiah exchange rate stability, increase liquidity and reduce\nliquidity segmentation in the money and banking markets, and accelerate\ndeepening of the money market and foreign exchange market.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, macroprudential policy and payment system policy continue\nto be directed at supporting economic growth. Loose macroprudential\npolicy continues to be strengthened to encourage economic growth through\nincreased credit\/financing to the real sector while maintaining\nfinancial system stability.<\/p>\n<p>Payment system policy remains directed at supporting economic\nactivity through expanding digital payment acceptance, strengthening the\npayment system industry structure, and improving the reliability and\nresilience of payment system infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>The direction of the monetary, macroprudential, and payment system\npolicy mix in strengthening stability and supporting sustainable\neconomic growth is also supported by the following policy measures:<\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li>Strengthening the effectiveness of monetary policy implementation to\nstabilise the rupiah exchange rate and keep 2026 and 2027 inflation\nwithin the 2.5\u00b11% target, by:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li><p>optimising foreign exchange intervention strategies to strengthen\nrupiah exchange rate stabilisation through Non-Deliverable Forward\ntransactions in overseas markets as well as spot and Domestic\nNon-Deliverable Forward transactions in the domestic market;<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>managing the interest rate structure in the money market in line\nwith the BI-Rate policy and pro-market monetary operation instrument\nrates accompanied by strengthening pro-market monetary operation\nstrategies;<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>maintaining adequate liquidity in the money market and banking by\nensuring primary money growth of more than 10% in line with monetary\nexpansion;<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"2\" type=\"1\">\n<li><p>Strengthening the effectiveness of rupiah exchange rate\nstabilisation and maintaining adequate rupiah liquidity by expanding\nunderlying transactions for foreign funding that can obtain a premium\nreduction incentive for Sell Hedge Swaps of 12.5%, from previously only\ncovering portfolio inflows to also including foreign loans by banks and\nforeign direct investment. These hedge swap transactions have a maximum\ntenor of 12 months with a maximum contract period of 3 years and can be\nrolled over according to the remaining hedge contract period. The\nexpansion of hedge swap instrument transactions takes effect in the\nsecond week of September 2026 for foreign loan funds and foreign direct\ninvestment entering since 1 July 2026;<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Strengthening preparation for implementation of Macroprudential\nPolicy related to:<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li><p>the Macroprudential Liquidity Incentive Policy for Money Market\nDeepening to maintain adequacy and encourage liquidity redistribution\nwhile continuing to encourage credit\/financing distribution to priority\nsectors, effective 1 September 2026;<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>the Macroprudential Inclusive Financing Ratio Policy to encourage\nbanking credit\/financing distribution to inclusive and sustainable\nsectors, effective 1 October 2026;<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"4\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Strengthening implementation of payment system digitalisation\nmeasures in accordance with the Indonesia Payment System Blueprint 2030\nto support economic growth and expand digital economic activity and\ninclusive finance by:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li><p>encouraging implementation of the Indonesia Credit Card launched\non 17 August 2026 and strengthening industry readiness for expansion of\nthe 0% QRIS Merchant Discount Rate policy for transactions up to\nRp100,000, effective 1 October 2026;<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>organising the Indonesia Digital Finance Economy Festival in\ncollaboration with the Indonesia Fintech Summit &amp; Expo 2026 on 24-26\nSeptember 2026, in synergy with the Coordinating Ministry for Economic\nAffairs, the Financial Services Authority, and the financial\nindustry;<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"5\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Strengthening policy coordination with the Government, the Financial\nSystem Stability Committee, and other stakeholders in efforts to\nmaintain stability and support sustainable economic growth.<\/li>\n<\/ol>",
