        "content": "<p>The Class IIA Penitentiary in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, is\noptimising library services as a rehabilitation tool to enhance inmates\u2019\nknowledge and personal qualities.<\/p>\n<p>Head of the Inmate Guidance Section at Banjarmasin Prison, Gilang\nWisnuwardhana, stated that the programme is a vital component in\ndelivering direct-impact rehabilitation, positioning literacy as a key\npillar for changing inmates\u2019 behaviour and mindset.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReading activities represent a simple form of rehabilitation with\nsignificant effects on individual development, while also encouraging\nproductive use of time within the prison,\u201d he said in Banjarmasin on\nTuesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to Gilang, the library serves not merely as a supplementary\nfacility but as a learning space that helps inmates fill their time with\npositive activities and boosts their intellectual capacity during\nrehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that optimising library services is directed towards\ncreating a more educational and humane prison environment. Thus, the\nrehabilitation process focuses not only on discipline but also on human\nresource development.<\/p>\n<p>Banjarmasin Prison views increased reading interest among inmates as\na crucial indicator of the success of the literacy-based rehabilitation\nprogramme.
