Bandungan Charter<\/p>\n
Based on the ideal of all Indonesians, as declared by the
\nYouth Pledge of 1928,<\/p>\n
One motherland<\/p>\n
One nation<\/p>\n
One language,<\/p>\n
are absolute conditions needed to achieve a unified nation with a
\njust and prosperous society and strong and dynamic economy, so
\nthat it can control its involvement in international affairs as
\npart of the era's call.<\/p>\n
Along with this, we state our commitment that the only way to
\nmanifest the ideal is through a process of assimilation.<\/p>\n
This means the process of unifying diverse groups which have
\ndifferent attitudes, customs and cultures into a harmonious and
\nmeaningful sociological bond within Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Having this social process implemented by all Indonesian
\ncitizens and all elements will accelerate the achievement of the
\nideal.<\/p>\n
In the context of Indonesian's of Chinese descent,
\nassimilation means the entrance to and acceptance of Chinese-
\nIndonesians into the single body of Indonesia, so that there will
\nbe no separate group with separate characteristics.<\/p>\n
The legal process for requesting or granting citizenship with
\nthe spirit of the Youth Pledge principally contains essential
\nconditions for those who request or those who grant it.<\/p>\n
Those who are granted Indonesian citizenship, as a
\nconsequence, have the responsibility to devote themselves to the
\nIndonesian nation with all their hearts.<\/p>\n
Having decided to unify with the Indonesian people as true and
\npatriotic Indonesians, they should oppose and eliminate all
\ncontradictory attitudes and actions opposing the unification
\nprocess.<\/p>\n
Another responsibility is to abandon the attitude of a
\nseparate Chinese identity and work against the preservation of
\nthe Chinese as an exclusive group.<\/p>\n
The people of the Republic of Indonesia who grant the
\ncitizenship rights have the responsibility to welcome the
\nassimilation process by publicly encouraging the process.<\/p>\n
Indonesian citizens should accept this with open hearts and
\nsupport the assimilation process.<\/p>\n
This assimilation declaration is designed and issued through
\nthe National Awareness seminar in Bandungan, Central Java, held
\nfrom Jan. 13 until Jan. 15, 1961.<\/p>\n
