Bandung theater to stage Moliere's play<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): One of Indonesia's modern theater groups,
\nStudiklub Teater Bandung, will bring Moliere's play Tabib
\nGadungan (Fake Medicine Man) to the stage at Taman Ismail Marzuki
\narts center in Cikini, Central Jakarta on Oct. 5.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the social situation, Studiklub Teater Bandung
\n(STB) will stage this French play, which was originally titled Le
\nMedecin Malgre Lui, under the invitation of the French Cultural
\nCenter (CCF) here.<\/p>\n
This play, although simple, will be full of sharp social
\ncriticism with a touch of comedy and will display people's
\nfoolishness, greediness and jealousy. During the play, all the
\ncharacters will wear masks.<\/p>\n
The play tells of a wife wanting to avenge her husband, who
\noften beats her. She then comes up with a plan, spreading news
\nthat her husband is a famous medicine man who can cure any
\ndiseases through one act, beating his behind. In reality, her
\nhusband is a fake medicine man.<\/p>\n
For the play, director Suyatna Anirun will adapt Moliere's
\nscript to a Sundanese setting. A veteran of adaptation, Suyatna
\nhad staged Badak-Badak (The Rhinoceroses of Ionesco) and
\nMoliere's Akal Bulus Scapin (The Cheats of Scapin).<\/p>\n
Suyatna said the group had performed the play several times.<\/p>\n
In March, the play was staged in Bandung and in Jakarta at
