Banda Aceh hospital gets donor help, requests more<\/p>\n

Almost two months after the Dec. 26 tsunami, Zainoel Abidin
\nGeneral Hospital in Banda Aceh is still facing problems because
\nit lacks laboratory and medical equipment, medicine and
\npersonnel, the hospital's vice director said in Banda Aceh, Aceh.<\/p>\n
Zainoel Abidin hospital, located on Jl. Tengku Daud Beureuh,
\nis Aceh's biggest state hospital. It was badly damaged in the
\ntsunami, with at least 25 centimeters of mud coating its floors
\nfor two weeks after the disaster.<\/p>\n
\"We are thankful to so many countries, people and
\norganizations who helped us run this hospital after the tsunami.
\nOur hospital now urgently needs lab equipment, medical equipment
\nand personnel as well as medicine,\" hospital vice director Dr.
\nCut Maulini told The Jakarta Post in Banda Aceh on Thursday after
\nmeeting Yemeni Ambassador to Indonesia Ahmed Salem Saleh Al-
\nWahishi and some prominent Yemeni businessmen.<\/p>\n
Cut expressed gratitude to the government and people of Yemen
\nfor helping the hospital become functional again.<\/p>\n
\"Yemeni companies, especially the Pacific-Inter Link, financed
\nthe cleaning and renovation of our rehabilitation ward. Now the
\nward is fully operational. They even planted trees and grass
\noutside and it looks much better than before,\" she said.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Ahmed, Yemen's biggest conglomerate Hayel Saeed
\nAnam Group's chairman Ali Mohamed Saeed and three other business
\nexecutives visited Banda Aceh to see how they could contribute to
\nthe reconstruction of Aceh.<\/p>\n
Dr. Cut expressed hope that other countries would help the
\nhospital as Yemen had.<\/p>\n
The hospital, which is four kilometers from the beach, lost
\n500 of its staff members -- medical and other personnel -- out of
\n800 members and many patients in the tsunami.<\/p>\n
All of the 400-bed hospital's medical equipment was severely
\ndamaged when mud and salt water washed through the hospital.<\/p>\n
Dr. Cut thanked Indonesian and Australian soldiers, who played
\na key role in cleaning the hospital. The hospital has survived
\nwith the help of help of donors, both domestic and foreign.<\/p>\n
\"Without medical equipment and medicine, we can't run this
\nhospital. Please help us!\" Cut pleaded.<\/p>",
