Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives and 15th Speaker of\nthe People\u2019s Consultative Assembly, Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet), has\nexpressed high appreciation for Tiffney Tyara Setyoko. The student from\nthe Faculty of Medicine at Pelita Harapan University (FK UPH)\nsuccessfully won first place in the Undergraduate Programme category of\nthe 2026 National Student Achievement Awards (Pilmapres). This success\ndemonstrates the even distribution of educational quality as well as the\nstrong capacity of private universities in producing outstanding\ninnovators.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology has also\nexpanded the scope of the Pilmapres competition. A special category for\nstudents with disabilities has now been introduced to realise an\ninclusive higher education ecosystem in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cTiffney Tyara Setyoko\u2019s achievement deserves our highest\nappreciation. She has shown that Indonesian students, including those\nfrom private universities, possess the academic capacity, critical\nthinking, research skills, creativity, and courage to innovate that\nenable them to compete at the national level. This also sends a message\nthat the quality of human resources should not be measured solely by the\norigin of their university, but by their work, competence, integrity,\nand the impact they can provide to society,\u201d said Bamsoet in a written\nstatement on Monday (10\/8\/26).<\/p>\n
Tiffney had previously won the Pilmapres at the LLDIKTI Region III\nlevel at the end of April. The 2023 cohort student succeeded in becoming\nthe best after defeating strong competitors from various universities.\nShe then advanced to represent UPH and LLDIKTI Region III to compete on\nthe national stage.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat makes this achievement even more significant is the long\nprocess Tiffney went through. From hundreds of students who participated\nin the selection across 17 LLDIKTI regions, 60 students advanced to the\nnational level and were eventually narrowed down to 19 finalists. This\nmeans that to become a champion requires a combination of academic\nachievement, thinking ability, relevant ideas, strong communication,\nleadership, and readiness to face real problems. Tiffney successfully\nmet all these challenges,\u201d said Bamsoet.<\/p>\n
Bamsoet also highlighted Tiffney\u2019s innovative idea, the Smart Febrile\nPatch, at the prestigious event. This non-invasive wearable sensor\ninnovation based on sweat is specifically designed to assist in the\nearly screening of the severity of infectious diseases with fever\nsymptoms. The invention is considered highly applicable because it stems\nfrom the difficulty ordinary people face in determining the crucial\nmoment to seek medical help.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Smart Febrile Patch shows how everyday problems can become a\ngateway to innovation. Health technology should be directed towards\nenabling the public to recognise their body\u2019s condition more quickly and\nmake appropriate decisions. If this idea can be developed through\nadequate research and clinical trials, its benefits have great\npotential, especially in supporting early screening and helping health\nworkers obtain additional information before determining the next steps\nin examination and treatment,\u201d explained Bamsoet.<\/p>\n
Tiffney\u2019s brilliant idea is considered aligned with global challenges\nin addressing the antibiotic resistance crisis. Data from the World\nHealth Organization (WHO) in 2023 showed that one in six cases of\nbacterial infection has become resistant to drugs. This resistance trend\nhas continued to surge significantly in more than 40 percent of\npathogen-antibiotic combinations during the 2018 to 2023 period.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen diagnosis is delayed or initial information about a patient\u2019s\ncondition is limited, there is a risk that the public will self-medicate\nor use antibiotics inappropriately. Therefore, diagnostic innovation and\nearly screening must be part of the national health strategy. The WHO\nitself has placed the development of rapid point-of-care tests to\ndistinguish bacterial and viral infections as one of its priorities in\ntackling antimicrobial resistance,\u201d said Bamsoet.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian government is currently intensifying efforts to\nstrengthen the antimicrobial resistance surveillance system\ncomprehensively. The Ministry of Health, together with the WHO, has\nlaunched a national survey involving thousands of patients in various\nhospitals and laboratories across more than a dozen provinces.\nStrengthening this medical feasibility monitoring system has become an\nurgent need amid the proliferation of acute healthcare facilities in the\ncountry.<\/p>\n
\u201cTiffney\u2019s achievement should be a momentum to strengthen the health\nresearch ecosystem in Indonesia.
