Bambang reelected YLBHI chief<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): In a close split decision, the board of trustees
\nof the Foundation of the Indonesian Legal Aid Institute (YLBHI)
\nelected yesterday evening Bambang Widjojanto for a second term as
\nthe foundation's executive board chairman.<\/p>\n
Bambang won by a slim majority of six votes to five over his
\nrival Achmad Fauzan.<\/p>\n
The board of trustees is comprised of 16 people, but only 11
\nattended yesterday's meeting.<\/p>\n
Born in Jakarta 38 years ago, Bambang began his carrier as a
\nlawyer at the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute in 1984.<\/p>\n
Before he was elected as the foundation chairman in March last
\nyear, Bambang was the Jayapura Legal Aid Institute chairman.<\/p>\n
The board nominated Bambang and secretary Achmad Fauzan to
\nchair the YLBHI executive board after five other candidates
\nrejected their nomination.<\/p>\n
The other five candidates were director of the Legal Aid
\nInstitute-Indonesian Women's Association for Justice, Nursjahbani
\nKatjasungkana; former director of the Jakarta Legal Aid
\nInstitute, Luhut M.P. Pangaribuan; YLBHI board of trustees
\nmember, Toety Heraty Noerhadi; former director of the Surabaya
\nLegal Aid Institute, Muchammad Zaidun; and director of the
\nBandung Legal Aid Institute, Haneda Sri Lastoto.<\/p>\n
The 1996\/1997 period of the YLBHI executive board ends Sept.
\n30, after being extended for almost two months. The period should
