Bambalina offers an entertaining puppet show<\/p>\n
Every country has its puppetry traditions. In Indonesia, we
\nhave all kinds of wayang performances. But
\nthe Bambalina Titelles puppetry troupe isn't what you expect.<\/p>\n
Retelling the classic story of Don Quixote, they mix the
\npuppets and the puppet masters as a whole modern sphere of
\npuppetry history.<\/p>\n
Don Quixote was written by Miguel de Cervantes in two volumes.
\nIt is the story of Don Quixote, a middle-aged bookworm, who reads
\ntoo many books of chivalry and drowns himself in the stories.<\/p>\n
With his obsessive reading, he turns crazy and wants to become
\na knight. He can't separate reality from the stories he has read.<\/p>\n
He then goes on an adventure with Sancho Panza, a farmer, as
\nhis companion. He turns a peasant girl into Dulcinea, a princess
\nwho needs to be saved.<\/p>\n
With a simple setting, but quite a dark, gripping atmosphere
\nand music to match, Don Quixote isn't really suitable for
\nchildren.<\/p>\n
The two puppet masters dress in black. The set is only a
\ntable, but with the play of lights from the candles and haunting
\nmusic, Don Quixote is a very lively and vibrant performance.<\/p>\n
The puppet masters also allow almost no boundary between
\nthemselves and the puppets.<\/p>\n
One of the best scene is Don Quixote fighting against the
\nwindmills that he thinks are giants.<\/p>\n
It all blends so nicely into a whole adventuresome show. It
\nhas all been carefully staged and well-mastered by the puppet
\nmasters. Flawless is the precise term for it. This show was also
\na part of prestigious Edinburgh International Theatre Festival.<\/p>\n
Bambalina Titelles is a unique Valencian puppetry company. The
\npuppet show is an intimate portrait that recreates the spirit of
\nCervantes's immortal work.<\/p>\n
They are able to communicate to all different kinds of
\naudiences despite all the different languages. Gestures are
\nsubstituted for words, and it works out really into perfection.<\/p>\n
Bambalina Titelles started in the early '80s. After 10 years
\nof hard labor, they have made it to many festivals across Spain,
\nEurope and America.<\/p>\n
Organized by Instituto Cervantes (Spanish Cultural Institute),
\nwhich just opened a few months ago, the Bambalina Titelles Puppet
\nShow marked the beginning of Spanish cultural week in Jakarta.<\/p>",
