June and July 2026 might just be the most creatively inspiring months\nto be in Bali this year.<\/p>\n
From the Bali Arts Festival to Galungan and Kuningan, through to the\nBali FOTO Festival and the opening of a new gallery and community arts\nhub in Canggu, Bali really is the place to be.<\/p>\n
With just a few more days of Galungan and Kuningan here in Bali, now\nis the most beautiful time to slow down and create space for inspiration\nto flow. In Bali, the 10-day Galungan and Kuningan festival happens\nevery 210 days.<\/p>\n
In 2026, the celebration occurs just once, making it even more\nenergetically potent. Galungan Day was observed on 17th June, and\nKuningan Day will be observed on 27th June 2026.<\/p>\n
Galungan and Kuningan are the Balinese Hindu celebration of the\ntriumph of dharma over adharma, of good over evil. Balinese Hindus\nbelieve that on Galungan Day, the ancestors descend to earth from the\ncosmic realms to clear the way and to visit their loved ones. On\nKuningan Day, the ancestors return to the cosmic realms, leaving peace\nand harmony in their wake.<\/p>\n
Anyone looking for artistic inspiration in Bali needs only to walk\ndown the street\u2026any street! Every street in Bali right now is lined with\nimpressive Penjor. These are beautifully decorated towering bamboo poles\nthat are installed outside every household and most businesses as a sign\nof gratitude, devotion, and to guide the ancestors home.<\/p>\n
The penjor is all handmade and made using only natural materials.\nIt\u2019s seriously inspiring, incredibly photogenic, and a beautiful\nreminder to those who feel it that we are connected in bigger ways than\nwe think.<\/p>\n
June and July every year in Bali is the incredible Bali Arts\nFestival. The month-long festival will kick off on 13th June, and\nprogramming will run until 11th July.<\/p>\n
The event is really only just getting started! The team confirmed\nearlier this month that Bali Arts Festival 2026 will involve 673 art\ngroups and foundations with a total of around 20,929 artists, a huge\nincrease from last year\u2019s event, which involved 562 groups and 14,229\nartists.<\/p>\n
For the 48th year of the festival, the theme is Atma Kerthi \u2013 Jiwa\nSidha Parisudha, which translates to mean \u2018Honouring the Perfect\nSoul\u2019.<\/p>\n
Through to the 11th July festival, goers can expect cultural\nperformances including dances, puppetry, traditional orchestra and\ntheatre performances, parades, competitions, workshops, exhibitions,\ntalks, and so much more.<\/p>\n
What is perhaps most impressive about the Bali Arts Festival is that\nentry is free to the public, including international visitors.\nInformation about programming can be tricky to find if searching online\nfor \u2018Bali Arts Festival\u2019, the event is just as often referred to by its\nIndonesian name, Pesta Kesenian Bali, and is more often than not simply\nreferred to as PKB.<\/p>\n
The official Instagram is the best place to get up to speed about all\nthe different events, which are hosted at the Taman Werdhi Budaya Art\nCentre in Denpasar.<\/p>\n
For a little more community-based art, tourists in Bali should check\nout the new Wija Reksa Quoriena (WRQ) Art Hub & Residency in Banjar\nKulibul Kawan, Tibubeneng Village.<\/p>\n
Tibubeneng Village is known to most tourists in Bali simply as\nCanggu. The newly opened art hub was founded by Daniel Ginting and\nQuoriena Ginting as part of the Ginting Institute.<\/p>\n
The Wija Reksa Quoriena (WRQ) Art Hub & Residency has opened with\na groundbreaking art exhibition that focuses on sustainability,\ncreativity, and culture.<\/p>\n
Speaking to reporters about the centre\u2019s inaugural exhibition,\nCurator Yudha Bantono explained that the Tibubeneng Sustainable Art\nExhibition has been designed as a space for creative dialogue between\nartists, children, villagers, and stakeholders across the area.<\/p>\n
He explained, \u201cThis exhibition showcases how art can contribute to\nbuilding awareness while offering solutions to the environmental\nchallenges we face together.\u201d<\/p>\n
Adding \u201cTibubeneng Sustainable Art is an awareness-raising art event\ninitiated by the Ginting Institute in collaboration with Tibubeneng\nVillage. Combining environmental education approaches and sustainable\nart practices, the project operates through two main pillars.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Tibubeneng Sustainable Art Exhibition is open to the public until\n30th June 2026, so there is plenty of time to arrange a visit to the\nWija Reksa Quoriena Art Hub & Residency.<\/p>\n
Those not in Bali right now should keep an eye on the Wija Reksa\nQuoriena Art Hub & Residency. This new arts space is already\npioneering art culture in Bali, and we expect to see lots more from here\nin the coming months.<\/p>\n
