The Bali Regional Parliament (DPRD) has called on residents not to be swayed by provocative narratives circulating on social media regarding Nyepi coinciding with Eid al-Fitr takbiran celebrations. The parliament has issued security recommendations and emphasised that inter-religious harmony in Bali is well-established, whilst urging residents to verify the authenticity of accounts spreading such content and to respect each other's celebrations.

Deputy Chairman of the Bali Regional Parliament (DPRD) I Komang Nova
Sewi Putra has expressed hope that Bali residents will not be swayed by
provocative narratives circulating on social media regarding the Holy
Day of Nyepi, which is predicted to coincide with the takbiran night of
Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriyah.

Nova is confident that Muslims living in Bali already understand that
religious harmony among different faiths runs very deep. “Those who have
lived in Bali for a long time and have settled here properly will
certainly understand the situation and conditions,” Nova said at the
DPRD Bali office on Thursday (12 March 2026).

He observed that many remarks and narratives with provocative
undertones are circulating on social media. Nova called on people to
verify whether such account profiles genuinely belong to Bali residents
or are merely seeking sensation.

“Our hope is that our people in Bali will not be provoked, because
here in Bali, people of different faiths already understand and respect
each other,” said the Democrat politician.

DPRD Bali’s Security Recommendations for Nyepi-Eid al-Fitr

The Bali Regional Parliament views the joint appeal issued by the
Bali Forum for Religious Harmony (FKUB) regarding Nyepi, which may
coincide with takbiran night on Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriyah, as
precautionary in nature.

This was conveyed by the Chairman of DPRD Bali Commission I, I Nyoman
Budiutama, whilst presenting the results of recommendations from a
coordination meeting on security and order ahead of Nyepi and Eid
al-Fitr at the DPRD Bali office on Thursday (12 March 2026).

“This appeal is thus precautionary and intended to prevent future
problems, so people including the Hindu Council (PHDI) should be
involved, and if necessary we in the institution can also provide input
regarding the celebrations,” said Budiutama.

The parliament also requested that police, civil police (Satpol PP)
and pecalang (traditional security personnel) undertake anticipatory
efforts and preventive measures against undesired incidents that could
disturb public order.

“Prevention of public order and security disturbances and criminal
activity, the use of alcohol, fireworks, and friction that may arise
during holiday celebrations,” Budiutama explained.

Meanwhile, Vice Chairman III of the Bali Regional Parliament, I
Komang Nova Sewi Putra, urged people of all faiths to appreciate and
respect each other’s holiday celebrations.

“For Muslim residents carrying out takbiran, our hope is that you
will respect and join in takbiran within your own homes,” Nova said.

However, the determination of 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriyah will still be
discussed in an isbat (decree) session held by the Ministry of Religion
on 19 March.

“There have been many inputs to the Bali Regional Parliament
regarding the joint appeal from the FKUB, and many people are asking
questions, whilst we must also be more certain because if we look at it
officially, we must wait for the isbat session,” said the Democrat
politician.
",
