        "content": "<p>The Bali Provincial Government has mandated the renewal of the taxi\nfleet on the Island of Bali to use electric vehicles. The policy,\neffective from 1 January 2026, is outlined in a letter from the Bali\nTransportation Department (Dishub). The letter implements Provincial\nRegulation (Pergub) Bali Number 48 of 2019 concerning the Use of\nBattery-Based Electric Motor Vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is mandatory is only fleet renewal. So old vehicles are still\npermitted to operate until a maximum age limit of 10 years. After that,\ntheir replacements must be electric vehicles,\u201d said Bali Transportation\nDepartment Head I Kadek Mudarta to detikBali on Thursday (26 February\n2026).<\/p>\n<p>Based on supervision card data, there are currently approximately\n3,500 taxi fleets operating in Bali. However, only about 41 fleets have\nswitched to using electric vehicles. The remainder continue to operate\nwith fuel-powered vehicles or are in the process of renewal.<\/p>\n<p>Mudarta emphasised that the department will not open a new taxi fleet\nquota expansion. Quota applications from businesses outside existing\ncompanies cannot be fulfilled and are directed to partner with\ncooperatives or local taxi companies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur policy remains focused on controlling the quota. Electric taxis\nare not an increase in the fleet, but a replacement of vehicle type. So\nit does not add to traffic congestion,\u201d Mudarta stated firmly.<\/p>\n<p>Mudarta assured that the policy of renewing the taxi fleet with\nelectric vehicles will not change the prevailing fares. Fares will\ncontinue to follow the argometer adjustments previously established.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want this transition to run fairly. Local drivers continue to\nwork, businesses continue operating, and the environment also benefits,\u201d\nMudarta explained.<\/p>",
