Bali prosecutors return Samudra's dossier to police<\/p>\n
Prosecutors returned to police on Thursday the
\ndossier of Imam Samudra, alias Abdul Aziz, the alleged mastermind
\nbehind the terrorist attacks on the resort island of Bali last
\nOctober, due to lack of evidence.<\/p>\n
Head of the Bali Prosecutor's Office I Ketut Yona said the
\npolice had to provide more evidence in the 1,501-page case file,
\nsaying it was \"incomplete\".<\/p>\n
\"There are at least one or two elements that need material
\nevidence, so we want the police to provide it,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Police presented the Samudra's dossier earlier this month,
\ncharging him with plotting and carrying out premeditated acts of
\nterror to cause mass murder.<\/p>\n
Yona said the case files of the 13 other suspects in the Bali
\nblasts -- Syaiful, Musafak, Herlambang, Budi Wibowo, Masykur,
\nNajib, Yudi, Makmuri, Junaedi, Rauf, Agus, Hernianto and Ali
\nGhufron, alias Mukhlas -- would also be given back to police for
\nrevisions.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the dossier of another key suspect, Amrozi, was
\ndeemed \"complete\" and prosecutors would submit it to court soon,
\nYona said.<\/p>\n
The police had resubmitted Amrozi's dossier to the
\nprosecutor's office earlier this month, after it had been
\nreturned to them for the same reason of incomplete evidence.<\/p>\n
The country's judicial system is notorious for its many
\nweaknesses on the part of police and prosecutors in laying
\ncharges or providing evidence against suspects. Corruption and
