Bali probes cholera claims<\/p>\n
DENPASAR, Bali: The Bali provincial administration is taking
\nseriously a claim made by a group of 19 Japanese tourists that
\nthey contracted cholera during their recent visit to the island.<\/p>\n
Chief of the Bali tourism office I Gusti Ketut Gde Darsika
\nsaid yesterday that tourism authorities would investigate the
\nclaim made after the Japanese returned home.<\/p>\n
\"We want to know the tourists' identities, their travel agent,
\nwhich resorts they visited and where they had meals,\" Darsika was
\nquoted by Antara news agency.<\/p>\n
He said he is cautious when receiving such complaints because
\nthere is always a possibility that the disease was contracted
\nelsewhere, maybe another country.<\/p>\n
\"There is a possibility that they got cholera from food they
\nconsumed in another country,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He acknowledged that in the past a seafood restaurant,
\ninvestigated following claims by a tourist that he came down with
\ngastric problems after eating there, was found to serve bad fish.
