Bali hosts family planning conference<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The National Family Planning Board (BKKBN) will
\nhold a one-week conference to evaluate the outcome of an
\nIndonesia-sponsored international training program on family
\nplanning.<\/p>\n
The board's official, Santoso, said on Friday the conference
\nwould take place in Bali's capital of Denpasar from Nov. 14 to
\nNov. 18 and would be attended by 25 participants from 12 Asian
\ncountries plus a lecturer from John Hopkins University in United
\nStates.<\/p>\n
Indonesia, regarded as one of the most successful countries in
\ndeveloping family planning programs, launched the international
\ntraining program 12 years ago.<\/p>\n
Since the program's inception, Indonesia has trained 3,633
\nfamily planning workers from 90 countries and sent 39 consultants
\nabroad to share with their counterparts the Indonesian experience
\nin family planning.<\/p>\n
Due in part to the program, some countries in Asia, like
\nBangladesh, Thailand and the Philippines, managed to follow in
\nIndonesia's footsteps by reducing their population growth rate.<\/p>\n
Santoso said that during the conference BKKBN hopes to hear
\neither the successes or failures of participants in family
\nplanning programs in their respective countries.<\/p>\n
"We hope to boost the information exchange among Asian
\ncountries in order to improve the family planning program," he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Participants of the conference will have an opportunity to
\nobserve how family planning works at Gianyar, near Denpasar.<\/p>\n
Bali is the most successful province in controlling the
