Bali fights gambling<\/p>\n
DENPASAR, Bali: The Badung police have detained nine people
\nfor operating an amusement arcade which doubles as a gambling den
\nin a Kuta tourist resort.<\/p>\n
The nine were caught Sunday during a raid.<\/p>\n
The local police have vowed to step up their campaign against
\ngambling here.<\/p>\n
There are at least 30 entertainment centers in Kuta with
\nelectronic gambling machines.<\/p>\n
Bali Governor Ida Bagus Oka announced yesterday that the
\nadministration would wage an all-out war against all forms of
\ngambling, including traditional cock fighting.<\/p>\n
He said that traditional gambling has been difficult to
\neliminate from rural areas because the authorities who are
\nsupposed to help ban it are actually backing the gambling
