Bali Governor Wayan Koster has extended the odd-even rule for buying fuel at petrol stations across the province until 23 October, as part of measures to address fuel shortages. Supplies have improved and current stocks are expected to meet demand for the next 11 to 12 days, with the rule subject to an earlier review if distribution returns to normal.

Bali Governor Wayan Koster has confirmed that the odd-even rule for
purchasing fuel at petrol stations across Bali will be extended until
Friday, 23 October 2026.

“We will extend the odd-even arrangement, which was due to end today,
adding the period from tomorrow until Friday, 23 October,” he told
reporters at the Sanggaran fuel terminal in Denpasar on Monday, 19
October 2026.

Koster said several measures introduced to address fuel shortages in
Bali, including working from home (WFH), online learning and the
odd-even rule, had produced positive results.

He said fuel distribution to a number of petrol stations had run
smoothly from Saturday, 17 October, to Monday, 19 October. Vehicle
queues had also begun to ease and had disappeared at some stations.

“From Saturday and Sunday through to today, fuel supplies to petrol
stations have generally been running smoothly, and there are no longer
many queues. Some stations have no queues at all, with vehicles already
inside the station forecourt,” he said.

At a meeting with Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil
Lahadalia and PT Pertamina (Persero) president director Simon Aloysius
Mantiri, Koster said current fuel stocks were estimated to be sufficient
for Bali’s needs for the next 11 to 12 days.

“At the meeting, the minister said stocks were available and
sufficient for the next 11 to 12 days, and would even be increased. We
in the regional government will also help Pertamina carry out its duties
on the ground,” he said.

Although the odd-even rule has been extended until 23 October, Koster
said it could be ended earlier if fuel distribution returned to normal.
The policy will be reviewed in light of developments on the ground.

“But if things are already good before then, we will review it. I
think the situation over the past few days has returned to normal and
improved, even to the point where it is as good as before the problem
occurred,” he said.

Koster also stressed the importance of maintaining Bali’s standing as
one of the world’s leading tourist destinations, noting that problems on
the island can attract international attention.

“What happens in Bali attracts considerable attention; anything that
happens in Bali immediately becomes known around the world,” he
added.
",
