Bali bombers to seek case review<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The executions of Amrozi, Imam Samudra and Mukhlas --
\nall sentenced to death for their roles in the 2002 Bali bombings
\n-- will likely be delayed further as their lawyers said on
\nThursday that they would seek a case review on their behalf.<\/p>\n
\"By early December, we will petition the Supreme Court to
\nreview the convictions of our three clients,\" lawyer Achmad
\nMichdan said in Jakarta.<\/p>\n
He said the such action was the last legal recourse open to
\nAmrozi, Imam Samudra and Mukhlas.<\/p>\n
From the beginning the defense had objected to their clients
\nbeing tried in Denpasar, which Michdan said was \"not neutral\".
\nThe lawyers also opposed the charging of the three under the
\nantiterror regulation in lieu.<\/p>\n
\"The Bali bombings took place on Oct. 12, 2002, while the
\nregulation was enacted on Oct. 18, 2002. It should not have been
\napplied retroactively,\" Michdan argued.<\/p>\n
He said the lawyers had been given letters of appointment from
\nAmrozi, Imam and Mukhlas to seek reviews of their cases, and also
\nhad the necessary new evidence for seeking such reviews. The
\nthree bombers had earlier refused to seek presidential pardons.<\/p>\n
Angry Balinese staged a series of protests in the wake of the
\nlatest Bali bombings to demand that the three be executed.
