Bali awaits Fashion Fusion show<\/p>\n

Bali never ceases to run out of attractions to capture the
\nattention of tourists. After the successful Bali Fashion Week in
\nAugust, the paradise island is gearing up for another huge
\nfashion show at the end of this year.<\/p>\n
Fashion Fusion, which will take place at the Ritz-Carlton Bali
\nResort and Spa from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2, will feature the new
\ndesigns of Hong Kong's leading designer Kevin Yeung, Yogyakarta-
\nbased batik specialist Afif Syakur, Musa Widyatmodjo of Jakarta
\nand noted gold-and-silver jewelry designer Runi Palar.<\/p>\n
Mardiana Ika, who helps organizing the event in commemoration
\nof the resort's fifth anniversary, told a press conference on
\nMonday here that the initial fashion show is to showcase the high
\ncaliber of Indonesian designers.<\/p>\n
\"I have proven through Bali Fashion Week that we could
\nintroduce Indonesian designers to the world.\"<\/p>\n
Yeung, who is also chairman of the Hong Kong Fashion Designers
\nAssociation, will display his latest collection. During the
\nconference, Yeung presented a spaghetti-strap gown, the back of
\nthe gown black and the front white. On the front of the gown he
\nstitched black organdy triangles giving it a zebra look. The gown
\ncame with long black-and-white gloves.<\/p>\n
The Hong Kong designer, who is known for his superior cut,
\nalso presented an off-one-shoulder black top, exposing the
\nmodel's back, with black tight-fitting pants.<\/p>\n
Afif featured two designs from his latest collection Misteri
\nSoga. He also modified traditional attire to adapt to
\ninternational trends.<\/p>\n
He displayed a light-maroon tank top with batik pants and
\nwrap. The batik, printed on hand-spun silk, featured a dark gray
\ndiagonal motif.<\/p>\n
Another outfit was a square-motif sarong with tumpal
\n(distinctive motif in a panel) on the front. It was combined with
\na purple bustier and a purple organdy blouse.<\/p>\n
\"Batik is an art. We must treat it like painting. Batik is
\ncompletely different from textiles with a batik motif,\" Afif
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Jakartan Musa introduced his mosha quilt sewing technique in
\nhis new designs combining traditional motifs from West and
\nCentral Java.<\/p>\n
Sekar Jagad featured a simple white sack dress and a wrap. It
\nseemed nothing extraordinary but the quilted wrap had a batik
\nmotif in the same color.<\/p>\n
As for Mega Mendung, Musa presented a white three-quarter-
\nsleeve blouse with Mandarin collar and a long white matching
\nskirt.<\/p>\n
\"I want to combine good taste with traditional values in my
\ndesigns.\"<\/p>\n
Aside from featuring latest designs, Fashion Fusion will also
\ndisplay the latest jewelry collection of Runa House, owned by
\nRuni and husband Adri Palar.<\/p>\n
For the upcoming event, Runi will display her sterling silver,
\n22-carat gold and 24-carat gold collection.<\/p>\n
\"The jewelry is 100 percent handmade with several specific
\ntechniques such as granulation work and classical technique,\" she
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
To welcome its guests, Ritz-Carlton is offering a special
\npackage for the event, which is expected to become an annual
\nevent, worth US$295.<\/p>",
