'Bajaj' driver found dead<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The driver of a bajaj (motorized three-wheeled
\nvehicle) was found dead on a sidewalk on Jl. Alu-Alu, Rawamangun,
\nin East Jakarta yesterday.<\/p>\n
The victim, identified as Salimin, 22, was believed to have
\ndied from five deep stab wounds.<\/p>\n
"He must have been killed by Pulogadung hoodlums," Mukromin,
\n22, one of Salimin's friends, said.<\/p>\n
Other bajaj drivers, who came to Cipto Mangunkusumo General
\nHospital's morgue to identify the body, agreed with Mukromin's
\nassumption.<\/p>\n
Mukromin said thugs in the Pulogadung area usually treated
\nbajaj drivers very cruelly. They would lash out at anyone who
\nrefused to give them money on demand, he said.<\/p>\n
"They're too demanding," he said. "We can't run from them so
\nwhat else can we do?"<\/p>\n
Salimin was apparently beaten before being stabbed five times,
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Salimin, the father of a one-year-old girl, was a solemn and
\nvery helpful man, Mukromin said. He shared a rented house in
\nTeluk Angsa, Bekasi, with other drivers from Indramayu, West
\nJava.<\/p>\n
"He'd been driving since he was a single man," Mukromin said,
\nadding that Salimin came to Jakarta six years ago.<\/p>\n
His body was found near the bajaj by a local resident, who
\nthought that Salimin was the victim of a traffic accident.<\/p>\n
He reported the case to the Pulogadung Police subprecinct.
\nPolice then rushed the body to hospital for a postmortem
