        "content": "<p>Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has\nurged geothermal power plant (PLTP) developers that have already secured\nconcessions to promptly realise their projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor businesspeople who have obtained concessions, they must also\nmove quickly. Do not hold onto the concessions. Holding onto them also\nslows things down,\u201d Bahlil said at The 12th Indonesia International\nGeothermal Convention &amp; Exhibition (IIGCE) 2026 held in Jakarta on\nWednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The government has positioned geothermal development as part of\nefforts to strengthen energy sovereignty.<\/p>\n<p>Based on data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources\n(ESDM), Indonesia\u2019s total geothermal potential reaches 23,202.77\nmegawatts (MW), while installed capacity stands at 2,776.39 MW, meaning\naround 88.4 percent of the potential remains untapped.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, the Ministry of ESDM is pushing for accelerated PLTP\ndevelopment through regulatory improvements, incentives, and firmness\ntowards developers so that concessions already obtained do not stall\nwithout project realisation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no other way to accelerate geothermal implementation so\nthat it can become electricity or other products, other than\ncollaboration between businesses and regulators,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Bahlil said the economic aspect is also a concern because the\neconomic value of geothermal has reached around 9.5 US cents per\nkilowatt hour (kWh), but this level is still considered inadequate by\nbusiness players.<\/p>\n<p>The government is preparing tax incentives as well as a revision of\nGovernment Regulation Number 7 of 2017, which is directed, among other\nthings, at indirect utilisation of geothermal energy and improving\ninvestor returns.<\/p>\n<p>A revision of Presidential Regulation Number 112 of 2022 is also\nbeing prepared to accelerate the development of new and renewable\nenergy.<\/p>\n<p>At IIGCE 2026, the government handed over Geothermal Permits to PT\nPLN (Persero) for the Gunung Ungaran Geothermal Working Area (WKP) and\nto PT Telaga Rano Geothermal for the Telaga Ranu WKP.<\/p>\n<p>The government is also preparing to offer five WKPs and seven\nPreliminary Survey and Exploration Assignment Areas in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Geothermal utilisation is also being directed beyond power\ngeneration, as Ministry of ESDM data records that geothermal\napplications have also supported coffee drying businesses in Kamojang,\npalm sugar processing in Lahendong, and the development of mineral\nextraction from geothermal activities in Dieng.<\/p>",
