The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil\nLahadalia, stated that the shift in consumption from non-subsidised fuel\nto subsidised fuel, alongside the hoarding of subsidised fuel, is\ncausing long queues for fuel purchases in Makassar, South Sulawesi.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat is happening now is that some are shifting; those who\npreviously did not use subsidies are now switching to subsidised fuel,\u201d\nB\/ahlil said during the Innovation Technology for Social and\nEnvironmental Awards (InTechSEA) event held in Jakarta on Monday.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Bahlil highlighted findings by the police regarding\nvehicles with modified fuel tanks used to hoard subsidised fuel. He\nrevealed that tanks in cars and trucks have been modified to be larger,\ncapable of carrying up to one tonne of fuel.<\/p>\n
Consequently, Bahlil stated that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral\nResources is working alongside the South Sulawesi regional government\nand the police to resolve the queues occurring in Makassar.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlhamdulillah, the queues have now begun to ease. We will undertake\nnecessary measures to ensure that subsidies are accurately targeted,\u201d\nsaid Bahlil.<\/p>\n
Over the past three days, queues of vehicles purchasing fuel have\nsurged by more than 50 per cent, disrupting traffic flow. In response,\nlocal authorities have issued regulations requiring fuel purchases to\nfollow an odd-even licence plate system. Additionally, large vehicles\nsuch as trucks and buses are required to queue for fuel at night to\navoid disrupting traffic.<\/p>\n
