Bahlil also discussed the matter with Coordinating Minister for\nEconomic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto. \u201cIn our discussion, I conveyed to\nMr President, \u2018Sir, if the ICP reaches $100, we propose that if\npossible, we should not raise the subsidised oil prices.\u2019 Fortunately, I\ncontinued discussing with Mr Coordinating Minister, who is also a former\nGolkar Chairman. This is essentially the result of collaboration between\nsenior and junior Golkar Chairmen, more or less like that,\u201d Bahlil said\nin his speech at the Golkar Party\u2019s halal bihalal event at the DPP\nGolkar Party, West Jakarta, on Wednesday (8\/4\/2026). Bahlil then\nrecounted the moment when subsidised fuel prices were not increased. He\nsaid this moment differs from the COVID-19 pandemic period. \u201cIn our\nview, when I discussed with colleagues at the Ministry of Energy and\nMineral Resources, if we raise fuel prices in normal conditions, there\nmight still be sensitivity because people do not face extraordinary\neconomic pressures, so raising it would be clear,\u201d he explained. \u201cBut\nnow the economic pressure is high. This is actually like COVID. The\ndifference is that during COVID we could not leave the house because of\nthe disease, but now we can leave the house, yet the economic pressure\nis not much different from COVID,\u201d Bahlil added. Bahlil also stated that\nthe Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is helping to find funds\nrelated to maintaining subsidised fuel prices. \u201cNot only are we not\nraising it, but we at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources are\nalso finding the money. So far, it has only been about raising and\nrequesting funds. But now, to maintain it without raising, we are\nfinding the money,\u201d he explained. Bahlil then recounted the time when\nLPG gas reserves were dwindling. Bahlil admitted to being somewhat\nconfused at the time. \u201cOn the 4th of this month, our LPG reserves were\nless than 10 days, on the 4th. Ideally, it should be at least 10 days.\nBut alhamdulillah, we were able to direct several of our cargoes,\nnegotiations with Japan succeeded, then with Australia and Brunei\nDarussalam,\u201d he said.
