Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia\nreported to President Prabowo Subianto on the condition of energy supply\nand the steps taken by the government to ensure the stability of\nelectricity services provided by PT PLN (Persero) to the public. He\nstated that the discussion took place following electricity service\ndisruptions that had occurred in several regions. In a meeting with PLN\nleadership, the government identified a number of key issues affecting\npower plant operations.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe discussed the sustainability of government service stability,\nPLN\u2019s service to the public, particularly regarding electricity,\u201d Bahlil\nsaid at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Monday.<\/p>\n
According to Bahlil, there are several main issues of concern for the\ngovernment and PLN. The first relates to gas-fired power plants (PLTG).\nThe second is the fulfilment of medium-calorie coal requirements needed\nfor the blending process of power plant fuel.<\/p>\n
He explained that PLN\u2019s coal requirement reaches approximately 154\nmillion tonnes per year. Meanwhile, the coal supply assignment given by\nthe Ministry of ESDM to mining companies to meet PLN\u2019s needs reaches\naround 180 million to 190 million tonnes per year. \u201cWhat has been\ncontracted by PLN is 134 million tonnes. Actually, based on the contract\nbetween PLN and businesses, 134 million for one year, now it is only the\nsixth month, that should be no issue,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
However, the problem faced by PLN does not lie in the volume of coal\nsupply, but rather in the availability of coal with the medium-calorie\nspecifications required for power plant operations. The government,\nBahlil said, has taken steps to assist PLN in meeting these needs so\nthat the energy supply for generators is maintained.<\/p>\n
