        "content": "<p>Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Minister of Energy and Mineral\nResources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, is preparing an alternative energy\nsource to replace Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) through Compressed\nNatural Gas (CNG).<\/p>\n<p>As an alternative, CNG is already used for industrial gas needs such\nas hotels, restaurants, and even the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG)\nprogramme with cylinder sizes of 10 kilograms (kg) to 20 kg and\nabove.<\/p>\n<p>To support household gas usage, the Ministry of ESDM will introduce\nCNG in a smaller size of 3 kg.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 3 kg one is still undergoing trials because the pressure is very\nhigh, around 200 to 250 bar. This is what we will try to modify,\u201d\nexplained Bahlil after a limited meeting with Indonesian President\nPrabowo Subianto at the State Palace, quoted on Wednesday\n(6\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>The trials are targeted to be completed in the next 2-3 months. \u201cOnce\nit is declared firm, we will carry out the conversion. Why? Because\nCNG\u2019s raw materials are all available domestically. C1, C2 gas,\u201d stated\nBahlil.<\/p>\n<p>Based on existing studies, Bahlil mentioned that using CNG will be\ncheaper than LPG, saving 30%. The reason is that CNG\u2019s energy source\ncomes from within the country and is not imported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is available in almost all regions with gas sources, so it is far\nmore efficient. And if asked whether it is already performing on the\nroad or not, on a large scale it is already in use. In Java regions, CNG\nis already used. Hotels, restaurants, and MBG kitchens are already using\nit,\u201d emphasised Bahlil.<\/p>\n<p>To Be Subsidised?<\/p>\n<p>Bahlil is also studying the possibility of subsidising the use of\nCNG. \u201cEverything is being studied. The subsidy option must still be\nthere, it\u2019s just about the volume that we need to assess,\u201d explained\nBahlil.<\/p>\n<p>As is known, Indonesia\u2019s LPG needs are still supported by imports of\n75% to 80%.
